Thriller in Prison

1,500 plus CPDRC inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, Cebu, Philippines at practice for Magandang Umaga(Good Morning) of ABS-CBN channel 2, a morning show of a local network here in the Philippines. But before that, this video has already gain lots of attention in the internet. Almost 200,000 views before it has been shown in ABS-CBN 2.

It is crazy and hilarious at the same time. Even in prison, Filipinos still knows how to have fun.

Issue #2 with colors

This is the two page spread of Kalayaan #2 that I recently colored. I already printed a few copies. I intend to give those away to friends and relatives for proof reading. It's a vital part that I forgot on my last issue. I was too stupid enough on the first issue that I did not even bother to get the reaction and inputs of my friends and relatives to the thing that they have read.

Sandata/Kalayaan with Colors

I got a change to sit down and put colors in this piece of work that I made. Colors really put life on an artwork. Even though that coloring is not my strongest talent. I am much willing to learn more as I go on. As of now, these are just simple flat colors. But still looks good, in my eyes that is. But then again... right now I have a sore eyes(ha ha).

The Picard Song

He is my favorite captain of the Star Trek universe. I said to my self, if I had been given a chance to have a son. I will name him after Picard.

Sean Luke Paredes... hmmmm. It has a nice ring to it.

I was laughing my self so hard when I first saw this video.

One family of sore eyes

I woke up this morning with an irritation in my eyes. I was kinda expecting this, because since last night I was the only one here in our family that does not have any sore eyes. Two to Three days ago my wife was asking around our neighbors about this and they said that it is the season of sore eyes. I'm not pretty much sure if that is really the case here.

It all started with my youngest (Catherine). I was very concern at first(well I'm still am) since I did not know it at first. I thought it was an allergy of the skin that climb to her eyes. I was just going to take her to the hospital when we discovered that it was just a sore eyes. After a day, my second daughter(Joyce) got it, and after that day my eldest (Vannesa) got it, and after that, my Wife and lastly this morning I have it as well(darn). I only hope that this thing doesn't get in the way of my work. I hope that this will be gone on or before Monday. I'm very much sure my boss will not make me work there if he sees me like a drug addict. The other thing is that he is a very health conscious guy.

Hmmmmm, I think I will just search the net quickly for some info on this to cure it. Because later this day, I will be going to club meeting of the National Book Development Board in the "Different Bookstore (Serendra, The Fort). I hope those guys does not notice it. I will just bring my shades.

Make Money Online

Make Money Online with John Chow dot Com learn how I went from Zero to over $10,000 a month by blogging.

That is the first thing your will see on his site when you click the link. I just downloaded his Free E Book which is a .PDF file. I was a little bit skeptical at first. But I said to my self "Heck, it's free. What am I going to loose?". And come on, who doesn't want to earn extra? (Come on, be honest)

At first, I could not get it? how could you make money by blogging? But as I read on, It gets a little clear. Ads... that's what! Just for those of you wondering. Why I put a google ads on this blog of mine? My number one reason is curiosity. At first, I did not know how the heck that works. After a few days of tinkering and reading, I finally got it.

Back to the Free E book. It's a very informative book on how to improve your blog. He gives tips on the do's and the don'ts. All in all, it is a very good book to read. And I recommend that every body that has a blog reads it.

Kalayaan and Sandata

I got inspired one day and decided to draw this. My very own Kalayaan and Sandata of Gener Pedrina. Two flag based super heroes side by side. I hope I could write a script for these two in the not so distant future.

I will be coloring this as soon as I found the time. Coz to tell you frankly, looking at these two with out colors is like ordering a cheese burger without a cheese. Parang kulang ba? o di kayay bitin ang dating.

-----------------------

I was recently invited through email to attend a club meeting on July 28, 2007 at A Different Bookstore (Serendra, The Fort) by the National Book Development Board. Because there will be a Manila Book Fair through Read Or Die this coming month. It's a book fair were I could sell my Kalayaan komiks without a selling fee. For those of you indie komiks creator out there that did not receive such email or have no idea about it. You can email them at readordie.ph@gmail.com for more information. It is a great opportunity for start ups like me to meet new people in these business. Kahit medyo nahihiya ako umatend dahil wala akong kakilala, kakapalan ko na lang ang mukha ko. :-)

Kalayaan # 2 release date

With the pin-up poster at hand. And all of the master copy of the interior art are already printed and ready for photo copying. I think it is pretty much safe to say that the 2nd issue of Kalayaan would be released on the middle of September or early October (if God permits).

The only thing that is holding me back now is the coloring of the cover. The cover will be a 2 page spread art that I previously posted here. And I will be re-posting it here again once it is already finished.

Pin-up by Gilbert Monsanto

Pin-up by Gilbert Monsanto.
He is one of my favorite lokal artist that we have.
That's why I was so delighted today when I open up my email and received a
pin-up of Kalayaan which is drawn by him.

Thank you very much for spending some time to create this.
I really appreciate it.

This artwork will also be included as the Pin-up Poster in the next issue of Kalayaan.

7 random facts about me

1.) I was a Ninja
When I was a kid growing up in the 80's. My hobby was creating different kinds of weapons of a ninja. I probably had the most vast array of ninja weapons in our neighborhood. But I was not alone with this. My cousins and elementary classmates also do this. But the more cooler stuff was the one I made (ha ha). Some of them I still have it today, boxed and hidden away someplace safe.

I was heavily influenced by Sho Kosugi Ninja Movies. And also there were movies like “American Ninja” and Lee Van Cleef’s “The Master” TV series.

I also have a complete ninja suit as well. One time, my brother took a picture of me wearing it, together with all of my weapons displayed. But I will never show it here(ha ha).

2.) I was crazy over G.I. Joe when I was a kid.
Back then… I probably have the most G.I. Joe toys and comics in our neighborhood. I also still have them today, boxed and hidden away someplace safe next to my ninja weapons (hehehe).

3.) I have a diverse personality
I was a mathematician in college, a computer programmer at work and a comic book artist on my free time. What else could I say….. ah… I’m a technology/computer geek and a nature lover as well. I also love rap music and slow love music as well.. (diverse talaga ako. hahaha)

4.) I sometimes talk to my self.
Call me crazy but that’s ok…. most programmers also talk to them selves as well. Sometimes I see my wife staring at me as she sees me talking to my self.. (haha).

5.) I was a trouble maker.
When I was in elementary and High school. I often had a fist fight with my classmates. One time (I think I was in my 3rd year high school), I punched my classmate in the face so hard that my knuckles went numb. That was despite that I was the class president… (oh man.).

6.) I’m a Trekkie
I love Star Trek so much that I even named my youngest child after one of its captains. My daughters name is Ma. Jane Catherine (Named after Capt. Catherine Janeway of U.S.S. Starship Voyager). I also have a vast collection of episodes of Star Trek TOS,TNG,DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. But I don’t read Star Trek books or Star Trek comic books.

7.) I love simple and easy to cook foods.
I love daing, tuyo and fried rice combined with scrambled egg and a sliced tomato as side dish on a rainy day. (It’s better than sex)

Thinking aloud

The past few entries that I made here are pure art. No text what so ever. Because I read one article once, and it says that let your work speaks for it self. No matter how good you are on persuading other people by your sweet talk. You could never persuade an editor or publisher to like your work by talking them out of it. So you better just shut up an let your work talk for you, and always listen to what the editor or publisher has to say about your work.

------------------

Being a programmer sometimes is a little bit boring. It is good to have another personality in me that I could express what I feel. Being an artist, I could express my mood on the way I draw. Sometimes, when I am so depress I draw something that is also depressing and dark. You can express the way you feel by this medium. And that is what is nice about it. You can have fun with it and you can express what you feel with it. It is like an outlet for me sometimes.
