Why Manny, Why?

 As I was preparing to go to office this morning, when I saw the most bizarre thing that I could imagine on a Philippine morning TV news interview. Manny Pacquiao is RUNNING for a government office. At first, he was saying he hasn’t decided yet. As I listened more. He said that he hasn’t decided yet if he would run for MAYOR or CONGRESSMAN???!!!

Let me just digest this for a few second and as I catch my breath…
Don’t get me wrong folks, I am a BIG fan of Manny Pacquiao. I have been cheering for him for about 9 to 10 years now. I have been watching him in blow by blow in channel 9 even when he was starting at a very early age. He had made many bad decisions in the past, but I just let it go like choosing a bad manager, signing two contract from two rival company at the same. But I said hey, that ok, maybe in the future he would learn better.

But those are peanuts compared to this one. And even more disturbing, he said that, even if he wins for Mayor or Congressman he will not stop fighting in the ring!!!
He will still continue his career as a boxers and perform many fight as he can!!?
What? A Mayor / Congressman boxer?

He has been very versatile with his career. He has been an Action Star, Commercial/ Product endorser Icon and even pursues his interest in music and creates an album and becomes a Singer. Those I can accept, but politics???? I really don’t know.

Maybe if he waited a little while, he could run on a lower office when he is retire from his boxing career. Maybe, just maybe. He would have less criticism and negative feed back from many people.

I’m also very afraid for him that he would loose all of his money. Coz I know how much money flies during and before elections. My mother was one of a campaign assistant in the old days. Even though how much money you have, every thing goes during campaign. And lots and lots of people will take advantage of him. And not to mention loosing your very own life. Many corrupt politician will not think twice on killing their political opponent who ever they are, just to remain in power.

If he really wants to help other people. There are so many ways to do that without going to politics.

I only hope that he would still change his mind and not to run for office.

JLP 2

Recently, I had another itch on drawing another JLP (Justice League Philippines) . Coz I wasn't quite statisfied with the first one. I had a real blast out of this one. 
I realy enjoyed drawing this one.

From the bottom left to right and up are the characters -> Panday, Captain Barbel,

I'm baaaack

I came back to our office in ortigas this january after having a leave of absence for 4 months because of a health issue. But I'm well now and feeling stronger. It was also just the right time when I came back because one of my office mate was celebrating her birthday.

It's a little bit funny coz, I have been with this company for over five years now. And this is the only picture that I have with all of the staff.

Maybe because I am with them only three times a week, since I am only part time employed to them. My other free time, I spend it with other clients of mine.

I consider my self as a freelance programmer/analyst. That is more convenient for me because I have more control over my time. But this company have been so much attached to me that I consider my self as part of their family.

Learning New Things

I just updated this blog site. I have just added those little cute icons on the right side of the panel. Little by little I am learning new things on simple html coding. Up until now, I haven't got around on learning html code. I am used to look at Visual Foxpro code, because that is what I primary use for work and when I was in collage I used Pascal and C.

I also added a clock just below it. Cool huh. I got that idea from Reno Maniquis.

It's sure is fun playing with html page.
Now, what else could I modify next time? Hmmmm. :-)

Toys of our lives

I recently bought Captain America and Red skull action figure. This is the first time again for many many years now that I have bought a toy for myself. Last time was I think, 9 or 10 years ago.

I was planning to buy this for the longest time now. I was really impress how detailed of the craftmanship for this toy. Specially on the part of the face of Captain America, it is very life like, specially for its small size.

My wife doesn't have anything against it. In fact, a few months ago she even encourages me to buy Superman and a Batman action figure when she saw Julius Babaw on TV showing off his StarWars collection. How nice is that huh. I’m so glad I married a person that could understand me. Coz when I was in highschool and college I used to collect alot of G.I.Joe action figures and vehicles. I would save my lunch money for months just to buy Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.
But my Mother doesn't approved (for my Father its just ok). She said "Ang tanda tanda mo na, naglalaro ka pa ng robot-robot". That really irritates me. But I just controls myself and humbly says that "Hindi po ito robot ma. G.I.Joe action figures po."

And my brother and sisters doesn't helped too. They often teases me when they sees me thinkering with my collection. "Para kang tumatanda ng paurong ah. College ka na naglalaro ka pa nyan." I just keep quite and continue on what I was doing.

Most of the time, if I bought a new one, I would hide it on my backpack as I pass along our sala. And opened it inside my room. That also goes to the comics that I buy. My sister says its a totally waste of my money, specially when she learned how expensive they were (kuripot kasi yung ate kong iyon.).

For me it was not a waste of time or money. On the part of comics, I consider them also as an investment. I said to my self, if I buy an ordinary comics today, maybe in the future I could sell it higher than what I bought it. Specially if it is very rare and in mint condition. Just like the death of Superman issue. I also told to my sibling back then that the first issue of Superman was hundreds of thousands dollars now. And on the part of Toys, aside from being fun to collect, they give me inspiration in life and on my work too. And that is one thing you cannot buy.

iPhone - Beyond iPod

It's January again and it is time for another MacWorld keynote from Steve Jobs. Every time I see him do his stuff on stage and present a new product(that could be either software or hardware) I always get inspired on my work as a programmer. And this time Apple company did it again. Last January 9 they have presented the most advanced mobile hand held device in the world (well that is at least my opinion).

It's the new iPhone.
It is beyond than just a Phone. It is the next big thing happened since the ever popular iPod, coz it is an iPod, a Phone and a internet device roll into one. It also has a built-in google map, widget, safari browser and it all runs on top of Mac OS-X. How cool is that.

Cover or Pin-up?

This is a drawing I recently created. At first, this was intended as the front and back cover of the second issue of Kalayaan comics (I already finished the first issue.).
But now I am having second thoughts on making it just a free pin-up poster inside the second issue.
Or maybe It could be both. I dont know.
I will just make up my mind sooner or later.

Here is Vorgon, one of the Villains that I have created during my collage days. This character is also one of the main character of the comics (Kalayaan) that I am working on.

UNLOCKER

Have you ever got this annoying windows message?

Before, it always happens to me while I was going to delete a video file in my hard drive that I already have burned to a disc. At first, I thought other system resources was just still using it, or windows just forgot to close it. But even after rebooting. This message still appears.

Well no more. Just go to this site ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ and download a program called UNLOCKER. One thing I like with this software is that it is small(only 192 KB) and easy to download. After installing, it will create an UNLOCK option in you right click when you are in windows explorer.

Better than keepvid

This site is better than keepvid.com. In keepvid.com (which I have posted last Nov. 28,2006) you could download a YouTube video, but only in .flv file. This site (www.vixy.net) you can download a YouTube video file on a variety of file format. You can have them as a .avi(DivX), .mov(MPeg4), .mp4, .3gp and even .mp3 file.
Just like keepvid, it is very straight forward. This site only needs the url of the YouTube file. Copy and paste it to this site and click start to download.

This is much easier, because you just cut off the hastle of downloading a FLV player and installing it to your computer.

City of Heroes
This is actually a site of the City of Heroes online computer games. They also published a comics based on their characters that is free to download. This free comics if in PDF format. So you better get a PDF reader first before downloading this comics.
Currently they have a 16 issues that has been published under the Top Cow(Image), but before that they had already published a 12 issues under Blue King publication.

OLD PICS.

I was going through some old stuff last night when I came accross to this picture. This was taken, I think around year 2000 when I was still a student of Gilbert Monsanto at LEARN in SM megamall. With me in the picture is the big guy him self, Whilce Portacio. Founding member of Image comics and a great artist. Also with us is Gilbert Monsanto the headmaster and little old me.




Speaking of known people. I also saw this old pic of me and Andrew E. At that time, I was a huge fan of him. I used to memorised all of his Rap song back then.
I was luck enough to be able to have this pic with him when he was promoting his 3rd or 4th album back then in SM north edsa.

When I look at this pictures, I alway get the notion that I realy gotten realy fat on this past few years. I was realy skinny back then. Now I look like a 5 month pregnant woman. I realy need to get this excess fats off.
