I just found out about this new site called Philippine Comics. It has the most collection of my favorite komiks from the 80s such as SUPERKAT and lots of FUNNY KOMIKS pages and a many more. It brings back old memories. 

Sudden Change of Name

For many months now, I have been waiting for a new spin-off title of Invincble. And that is the Guardians of the Globe. When suddenly, around some time in June. Image comics decided to change the title from 'GUARDIANS of the GLOBE' to the new 'GUARDING the GLOBE'. What the heck? What gives? The first title is much cooler than the previous one. And they have been using it for many years now.

I was looking on many comic news sites regarding this. But just like I am, they are also on the dark on this. Some of my friends told me some speculations that it had a conflict with 'Guardians of the Galaxy'. Those are just speculation. And we have a tagalog word for that -> 'Kwentong Barbero'. But I do not want to just speculate on things. I want hard facts. Then I remembered Ryan Ottley (artist of Invincible) having a DA(DeviantArt) account. And I recall that he replied on my comment once (kinilig ako nun... :D). He is such a nice guy, so I asked him about it. And today I was surprised (kinilig nanaman) that he answered my question.

As it turns out, The speculation of my friends are somehow true. The word 'GUARDIANS' is copyrighted by Marvel. What a bummer, so does this means that no one can use that word as a title other than Marvel?

Yeah... I know, the later part of my message shows that I am such a die hard fan boy. I just could not help it. :D

Komikon Aftershock

Komikon 2008 was exhausting but very much worth it. Just like the previous Komikon. I did not had any chance to roam around because I have to man my post and sell my comics as much as I can. I have sold more comics this time than last year. From my inventory today, I have calculated that I have sold a little bit more than a 50 copies of Kalayaan (Issue 1 to 5). Last year, if I am not mistaken, I have sold a little bit more than 30 copies (Issue 1 and 2) . I only hope that the momentum of my sales would continue up to next years event.

Thats me with the two legendary comic artist. I was lucky enough that I came in early at the event that I got the chance to take a picture with them. Thanks again to Omi for taking this picture.

Manila man and his creator Rhiver. Rhiver is one of the most creative person that I know. Aside from being a good artist, he also comes up with this awesome and some times crazy concept. Just to give you an example, after Komikon we had a little dinner celebration at Shakeys. While there, I saw one of his intriguing character and asked what is his name. He said "His name is Birthday Boy, a villain that I created for Manila Man". I replied "Why Birthday Boy?", "Because he always kill a person on his Birthday."...... See what I mean.. :-)

International Standard Serial Number

A few weeks ago, I went to the national library at kalaw in Manila. I went there to get a ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) for my Kalayaan comics. It is a serial number that is quired by the leading book store in the Philippines. So if you ever want to get you comics to be sold there. Your comic book must have it. It will only cost you P120 and alot of sweat from going back and forth from the 6th floor office to the ground floor cashiers desk. Even with an elevator it is still tiring but very much worth it.

They will ask you to give them a sample of your comics. Each title will cost you P120. In my case, even though I have released many issues, I only paid P120.

After having the ISSN with me. I wanted to find out more about this serial number. I know that the book store uses it as a serial number. But I just know that there is more too it than meets the eye. So I went on the net and found this cool site on wikipedia. In this site, there was a code, a mathematical formula for the ISSN. The geek and mathematician in me suddenly kicks in.

mulitpied by 8,7,6,5,4,3,2 espectively

(take note... the last digit are not added on the computation since it is the check digit)

= 2*8 + 0*7 + 1*6 + 2*5 + 2*4 + 7*3 + 7*2
= 16 + 6 + 10 +8 + 21 + 14
= 75

75 mod 11 = 9

11 - 9 = 2

And viola 2 is the check digit(the last digit of my ISSN).... Correct... wow ...now thats cool.
