SPARTAAAA PUSSSHHHH
SPARTAAAA PUSSSHHHH
That is what I almost shouted at the MRT train today while on my way to our office in ortigas. People were pushing each other every time that the train doors open. It was just like the movie 300 scene were the Spartans are pushing the Persians to the cliff. It was an adventure every time the door opens. You have to prepare your self to push.
If your are a guy that is on a MRT station during rush hour, and the person besides you is beautiful young girl. That is totally okay (you can push me anytime baby, yeah.. :D). But there are also times that bad luck hits you. A guy next to you has a terrible body odor (even an air conditioned train could not do anything about it) . Elbows hits you every where, other people breathing behind your back, you feel like a sardine trap on a small can. Butt to butt, shoulder to shoulder, chest to shoulder. People pushing every where. And it is the most often source of fights amount the passengers. It is an adventure I tell you. Just ask Reno. :D
And if you are a short guy like me. It is much probable that your face will end up only inches away from a tall guys armpit (which I hate the most). And if you are a tall guy, it is also much probable that your big feet will be stepped on by a smaller guys, your body will be elbowed and your head will bump on the small MRT door.
It is not the fault of the people actually. Because it seams that the time interval between trains have been expanding. Before, it was just only about 2 to 3 minutes. Today it reached about 5 to 6 minutes before the next train arrived (sometimes 7). So, the tendency is that the passenger will accumulate exponentially.
But despite will all that hassle. MRT is still the choice of many commuters like me. Since it is fast , cheap and reliable (sometimes).
Until then, I only hope that there will be a cute chick next to me. :-)

Why
For the past few weeks now, I have been posting preview pages of Kalayaan #7 on the net. And with that, people might be saying “Why aren't you the one making the pages?”
Why?... Why not?
When my name is at the cover of the comics, it does not necessarily means that I am the one making ALL of the sequential pages. Carlo J. Caparas (ok this is a bad example) appears before the word “Ang Panday”, but he did not draw a single panel (but he created the character and the story). But, all of the credit goes to him. :-( (Bad example nga). Another one is Todd McFarlane, he started to draw spawn. But later on, gives the sequential pages and the story later on to others (with his approval/supervision of course) . And I see nothing wrong with that. And it also goes with Stan Lee with the many Marvel characters he created. You do not expect Stan to create, pencil, write all of his titles that he started and continue doing each and every issue of each of those characters he created for the rest of his life without turning it over to other writers.
Publishing a comics with a team helping you is already hard. Multiply those by 10x to 20x if you are self publishing it all by your self. And on top of that, try to release it on a regular basis, which I am doing every other 4 months (every February, June and October). With this on mind, you may have an idea how grateful I feel if someone comes to me and offer their help to me for free. Even how small that help is, it is very much appreciated.
But first of all, I just want to clear something out. I am not totally sitting thing out on this particular issue when it comes with the sequential pages. I have just shared the pages with others. Namely Erwin Ropa and Tom Harry, which I am very much grateful, for helping me out. I have just given them a specific pages that I think will suit their style the best, and will give the comics a better result (This particular issue is a little bit complex than the usual story, since it has many sub-stories in it.) But I will still be the main story teller and the cover artist. As of this writing, I am already doing pages 8,9 and 28 at the same time. This issue has a 28 sequential pages in all. Plus the additional pages for the fan art section, letter pages and a pin-up. If I will do this alone, I will definitely not make the June dead line.
The good news is, despite the additional pagesssssss. Issue #7 with still be priced at P65 without any additional cost. It simply means you get more value for your money. Just like the new Bayan Knights #2 (ooops, plugging time :D). Anyway, I hope that you guys would support all small independent comics out there.
Thats it for now guys and I hope for your understanding.
Thanks
Gio Paredes

Recognition
Last April 1, I attended the recognition day of my kids. Joyce Nicole got two medals, Best Achiver and Best in English. She also got one ribbon for the Most Diligent. I am so proud of her. I love you ate Joyce... manang mana ka sa Daddy... hehehe.
My eldest daughter Vannesa got a little bit jealous, because she only got one ribbon (Most Polite). But despite that, in my book she should be proud of her self. Because I always see her every night doing her assignment and studying without me or her mom telling her. She automatically studies by her self. And that for me is what really counts. The willingness to study and do what must be done.
Here is the very cute Catherine goofing around the school yard. She is always the one making me smile and laugh all the time. Masyadong maloko, manang mana rin sa Daddy. :D

GMP Project
This is a simple 15 to 20 min. sketch (pencil only) I made after my lunch break at our office. I have just ink and color it at home.
It will tend to discipline and practice my hands and mind at the same time. Because I have noticed lately that I was drawing less and less because of the demand of being a computer programmer at our office.
I decided to do this as a regular basis. I will do all of the 40 plus characters of the Bayan Knights members. And once it is finished, I plan to put all of them together, to make a one BIG tarpaulin poster.
Overdrive is a character owned by Mark Rosario.

The Official Kalayaan site - Updates
Updates are
1.) Web comics [link]
I have just added all the links of all the pages from Kalayaan #1 to #4. You can now read those issues online.
2.) Fan Art [link]
I have just uploaded all the newest Fan art. I was a little bit over whelmed that it has reached a total of 42 pieces in all, as of this writing. The fan art section of the site is now divided into two(2). Images 1 to 30 [link] and Images 31 to 60 [link]
That's it for now... enjoy..
