A different feeling

It always delights me each time I receive a fan art. People taking their precious time just to draw my character. And one particular person who had created so many fan art uses a pen name Originalnameless. His real name is Joy Paz A. Gatdula. He currently holds the record of the most Kalayaan fan art, around 9 drawing in all (including the villains). It's been quite a while since we have exchange messages. But many months ago, we occasionally trade messages quite often. And each messages he sends me , there is always a message of respects towards me. An honor that most of the time that I feel that I do not deserve.

I have not met him in person before, and I'm afraid that I will not have that chance. Because I am very sad to say that he just passed away earlier this month due to a heart attack. I had confirmed it from the post of Gian Carlo in DeviantArt.

To be honest, I was a little ashamed of my self not seeing it sooner that he was the one that the comics group Hollow Point was saying that just passed away earlier this month.

It is a little bit different feeling for me being sad for a death of someone that I never met in person before. I guess this is what Ferdinand Blumentritt felt like when he received the news that Jose Rizal died.

It is such a shame for an early age of only 32 he is already gone. There are so much potential on him. I really regret not meeting him in person. This kind of things makes me thank our creator more each day for the life that he gave me. For a person that will be 39 years old this October, it makes me think how lucky I am for I am still here.

The following artwork are the fan art that he send me. Goodbye my friend and thank you very much for these wonderful art that you gave me.

Philippine government please watch this video

If a single person could get a P10 Billion through NGO from the government. I am very much confident that the Philippines could create something similar to this so that the yearly flooding could be stop once and for all. Mahal ang pag papagawa nito pero mas importante ang mga buhay ng tao kaysa pera.

Floods again

(Image taken from Yahoo News Philippines Aug.19,2013)

Exactly last year, I posted THIS ENTRY about the sewer system. And one year later here we are again. Floods in Metro Manila, in the provinces and almost every where in the Philippines. And this will continue again and again and again. Year after year after year if our government will do any thing about it.

A better way

Dapat panoorin ng MMDA ito. They should start thinking outside the box. As EARLY as 1860's in London, they have already solved their problems in traffic.

I'm not Mighty

One of my habit is to Google my name. And in many occasions that I find my name popping up in some forums, message board and blog site. But most of the thing that had catch my attention is people address me as 'Sir', 'Master' and others (believe it or not) 'Mighty Sir Gio Paredes'. Although I am very much flattered that people would address me with such a high regards, I still think that I do not deserve such a praise. Aside from publishing my own comics, I'm just a normal person like you. Even my friend Randy Valiente does not wanted to be called 'Master'. Dahil sabi nya 'Kung may Master ay mayroong Slave.".  Tama nga naman. So I really would appreciate it if people would just call me plain 'Gio'. At isa pa... pag Gio lang tawag nyo sa akin, feeling ko ay bata pa ako at hindi tumatanda. :-)

FINALLY

FINALLY!.. There is now a Dedicated Table / Rack for Filipino Graphic Novel. This was taken at National Bookstore SM Fairview today. Here you can see Trese of Budjette Tan. Kalasag from Black Ink written by Jeffrey Marcelino Ong. Skyworld by Ian Sta Maria. Kalayaan comics by yours truly, Tiktik the comics adaptation of the movie and many other titles from Black ink. Sana yung ibang NBS branches ay ganito rin.

Here's another shot of the other side of the table/rack that is dedicated to Filipino graphic novels. In my opinion, one of the big contributing factor that NBS decided to this move is that the number of Black Ink titles that had been released. It is evident from the picture below that most of the book displayed here came from Black Ink.

Even Heroes need Heroes

Day in and day out, our soldiers heroically put their lives on the line to keep us secure, at times, risking their own family’s future. When they are Killed in Action (KIA) or become incapacitated in the line of duty, their families suffer the loss of both a loved one and family bread-winner. It's our time to help them.

Reference for Future Fan Art

For those out there who wants to create a Kalayaan Fan Art. You can use this for reference. This is his current costume. I have just tweaked a few things here and there with the colors and other stuff.  I see a lot of fan art out there that deviates from his costume. Even though I am very much grateful for each and every one of them.  But I would appreciate it if the future fan art would stick to the original design. Thanks.

Donkey

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

MORAL :
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.
