Kalayaan Animation

Another Fan Art from my good friend Bien del Rosario. But this time he created my character with an animated series/figure in mind. This is one of my dream, to see my character with his own animated series. And I hope someday that this will become a reality.

It is so nice to have a very good friend.... thanks Bien :D

300 Million in 10 Days

Batman buried his rivals at the North American box office for a second weekend on Sunday, racing past $300 million in a record 10 days. Thats 300 Million US Dollars baby. I just could imagine the smile on the face of Christian Bale(Batman) right now. Darn you, you lucky rich bastard. :D

Let me just compute this gigantic money for a second.
Assuming that $1 = P44
Thats $300,000,000 x 44 = P13,200,000,000
P13,200,000,000 / 10 days = P1,320,000,000 every day
P1,320,000,000 /24 hours = P55,000,000 every hour
P55,000,000 / 60 seconds = P916,666.67 every second

By this computation, for the last 10 days, Warner Bros. are earning an outstanding P916,666.67 every second. It is like when I sneeze for a second, they already earned close to a million peso. And what is more amazing is that these are just for only the FIRST 10 days.

Bookay-Ukay Bookstore

I just came from Bookay-Ukay Book store at UP Village. I delivered a few copies of Kalayaan comics there. I first saw them from the blog site of Randy Valiente. He said that they were open to indie comics for consignment, so I did not hesitate and grab the opportunity and contacted them through their multiply site.
These are the Bookay-Ukay people, Marika and Dan. They were kind enough to be photograph with my comics on their hands. They are very much happy as I am that I went there and consign my comics with them. They are so easy to talk to and to deal with. I only hope that there are more store like this.
Bookay-Ukay entrance. :D
Bookay-Ukay Map which I got from their site.
Address : 55 Maginhawa st. U.P. Village, Diliman Q.C

So if you happens to be near the location, please drop them a visit and check their books and merchandise. And if you are a independent comics publisher/creator, better go to them to consign you comics. They offer a very very good deal.

Memoirs of Klitorika

For the first time in my life. I have finished a book from cover to cover in just one reading. This has not happened before. And on top of that, I am just an occasional book reader. The closes thing that this happen is when I bought Bob Ong's book "Bakit baliktad magbasa ng libro ang mga Pilipino." I went only halfway with that book, and I am still not finished up to this day.

The only thing that I can say to the author of this book(Klitorika). Is that she is gutsy for publishing her experiences.

I do not recommend this book to every body since it is clearly not intended for everybody's way of thinking. One might get offended and most would automatically condemned the author. As for me, I am not sure yet. I just finished reading it as of this moment. I am still trying to digest all the information on my head.

CRY FOR JUSTICE

Marcos Mataro killing: serious blow against freedom of expression, religion

It was like any normal Sunday morning on April 27, except for the cloudy sky and mildly gushing of wind that was threatening for rain to fall. At the North Luzon Expressway toll gate in San Simon, Pampanga, at past 10 am, six gunshots, whose bang was mildly tempered by the wind that seems the incident’s tireless witness, tear the calm environ of this quiet area.

Few seconds more, some head turned. A little noise that was evolving to be a commotion soon pulled some feet and swayed them to trace what was believed to be a crime scene.

Unknowingly to these people who rushed their way to the scene, the person lying in the ground, dead, was Marcos Mataro, one of the main hosts of an investigative religious program on UNTV 37.

Pinoy01 Questions

I have recently received a series of question from a fellow DeviantArt member. I was very happy to answer these kinds of questions since I rarely receive any of them.

Pinoy01: I'd like to get your opinion the ff:

On a serious note (comics serious?) the philippines doesn't really have time to be reading comics, does it? should we be making comics at all

[IMO, comics are supposed to be fun and serve their purpose when they entertain the readers. we should make comics all the more since they not only entertain people but have the ability to inspire the youth. kids should be watching TV with shows like "Zaido" LOL]

Gio: I really don't believe that Filipinos doesn't have any time to read comics. The market is there. Wala lang major players that releases comics in a constant basis. Many people approaches me that they love reading comics.

Yung iba nga eh binabantayan talaga nila yung susunod na issue ng comics ko (which is issue#5).

For the question “should we be making comics at all?”

I don't know about the others, but for me it is a definitely YES. It is just a matter of what you want in life. What I want is to create comics, it is that simple. And influence young (even old) people is also what I want to do with my comics. As much as possible, I put moral lesson in my stories.

----

Pinoy01: I see you have designed a filipino superheroes do you think it is necessary for any filipino character design to fashion old native motifs (i.e. farmer, and the sultan look)? [IMO, character design is totally up to the designer. In fact, your Kalayaan looks really Cool. (and i have a young animu farmer who wears new balance shoes LOL) however, i think we should try to deviate from the traditional look i.e. "sultan look, etc." because it implies that we Filipinos are behind the times]

Gio: No, Pinoy Super heroes doesn’t have to be fashioned that way. But it also doesn’t hurt to do so either. It is just a matter of taste of the person creating the character. And his approach to the story that he/she have in mind for the character. You can have a character that is a Sultan, Farmer, igorot etc. but still looks cool and up to date in technology. It’s just a matter of how you tell the story (to see what I mean, read Kalayaan #3 :D)

As a technology guy myself (I work as a computer programmer), I have incorporated many new technology to my comics such as Nano Technology as the body armor of Kalayaan and his being is a result of a Genetic alteration. I also added in my story GPS, holographic projection, computers etc.

-----

Pinoy01: and then finally: whew...! what is your stand on Filipino Comics than "speak" in English. [IMO, i have no problem with it] the reasons for these questions is that i am intrigued by your representation of a Filipino Superhero. i haven't seen any Pinoy Superhero that was done this good.

P.S crap i spelled Filipino with a small "f" several times. XDX

Gio: First of all thank you very much for your kind words for my work. People like you make it worthwhile creating comics. And thanks also for your questions/ small interview . These kinds of thing also keeps me in check with myself on what I stand for.

Back on the question “what is your stand on Filipino Comics than "speak" in English”. I also have no problem with it. In fact at first I was having a little trouble deciding weather I will put my comics on English or Tagalog. But later on I decided that I would go Tagalog for my comics. But the letter page is written in English and occasionally I throw in a couple of English conversation.

For me, our Tagalog language is evolving. Hindi na ito katulad dati na nag uusap na “Ngunit, subalit , dadapwat aking irog, sa ika ibuturan ng aking damdamin at puso ay ikaw lamang”. I did not write that just to make fun of it. Ipinakikita ko lang na ganyan ang mga Pilipino magsalita dati, pero hindi na ngayon. There are many English word today that unconsciously being use, even by ordinary people.

One day I was in front of a jeep. Sitting besides me is the friend of the driver. I could not help it hearing their conversation. “Alam mo pare, si pareng Criss sometimes nakaka offend yung mga sinasabi nya eh.” Nangiti na lang ako, when I realize that our language is converging with the western. Kahit si manong driver ay marunong mag English. :D

I could not see anything wrong on having a single language for the entire planet (can you?). Language barrier only keeps us apart from our brothers and sister abroad. Language barriers only create confusion, hate and sometime war. Because people think that they are different from one another because they simply speak differently. As an opposite, there are many advantages of having one language. There are too many to mention and my answer here is already too long. :D

Well I think I already slammed this one in… these are all just my opinion ok.. :D

Office work and Avatar

I am so stressed out in my office work. With the exportation of the database in my program to QuickBooks database just sucks. There were too many moving parts. At the beginning I was not really into the idea that we used the QuickBooks program for our accounting stuff. Since I already have an accounting program that I have created myself with an accountant friend. But my boss (owner of the company just said “nope”). He said that he is very much familiar with QB. And it will be tedious to teach a new accounting program to the staff.

Oh well, that’s life. :-(
--------

I just finished watching the latest episode of Avatar (Season 3, Episode 15). I must admit. At first, this animation did not caught my attention. But a friend of mine said that he really loves this show, together with her girl friend. So I decided to watch it from the very beginning (Season 1, episode 1). And boy do I got hooked. The story telling is just amazing. All of the components are there. Great action, drama, comedy, intrigue, love story and suspense. There were even episodes that I cried. I can’t believe I said that.

And now, I just can’t wait to get the next episode.

Hospital falsifies records of patient who died on waiting room floor

All of this time, I thought that American hospitals are the best in the world. :-(

"A 49-year-old woman collapsed and died on the floor of a waiting room at a Brooklyn psychiatric hospital and lay there for more than an hour as employees ignored her, according to the New York Civil Liberties Union, which on Tuesday released surveillance camera video of the incident…

Upon her admission, Esmin Green waited nearly 24 hours for treatment…

The surveillance camera video shows the woman rolling off a waiting room chair, landing face-down on the floor and convulsing. Her collapse came at 5:32 a.m. June 19, the NYCLU said, and she stopped moving at 6:07 a.m. During that time, the organization said, workers at the hospital ignored her.

At 6:35 a.m., the tape shows a hospital employee approaching and nudging Green with her foot, the group said. Help was summoned three minutes later…

“Contrary to what was recorded from four different angles by the hospital’s video cameras, the patient’s medical records say that at 6 a.m., she got up and went to the bathroom, and at 6:20 a.m. she was ’sitting quietly in waiting room’ — more than 10 minutes since she last moved and 48 minutes after she fell to the floor.”
