Interview with Mr. and Mrs. Shades

I just watched Korina Today at ANC channel. She just finished her interview with Donna Villa and Carlo J. Caparas regarding the revival of the Philippine Komiks. The interview "perse" was very optimistic and very exiting because of the coming of the new Komiks this September 14. But somehow I got a very bad vibe as I watch the show. I said this because I think that the couple is kinda weird wearing a dark shades inside the studio while being interviewed. Aside from being disrespectful to Korina(because of the shades they wear), wearing a dark shades of the couples day in and day out for the rest of their life is very weird. At lease I had an excuse a month ago because of my sore eyes. And Randy Santiago has an excuse because of the deformity of his eyes. But these two.... I don't know what they are trying to prove. Sending out a fashion statement? Being a trend setter? Even Steven Spilberg take off his trademark cap once in a while. But CJC? Does he sleep with his cap and shades on? And for the longest time. Please... shave off that ugly beard or at lease trim it a bit. And for a millionaire like him. He has a hair that resembles as a floor map. I am very much sure he can afford to pay a barber for a hair cut. Heck, he can even buy the whole barber shop.

ANG PAGBABALIK NG KOMIKS

I live around Fairview area. Most often when I go to work in ortigas, I would ride an FX Taxi. This morning, I sat down at the back of the FX Taxi. When we have just pass the Ever Gotesco Mall in commonwealth avenue. I have noticed a huge billboard there saying “ANG PAGBABALIK NG KOMIKS” (The return of comics). With a BIG picture of Carlo J. Caparas with his name on it. Together with him is a small image of people and some comics images at the bottom. If you are coming from Philcoa going to Fairview, it is at the left side of the street, you cant miss it, because it is so huge.

Sometimes I wonder if he is marketing the comics or him self. Because the giant billboard noticeably has a bigger image of him instead of the comics that he is trying to advertise. But who am I to talk and complain. He is the one who is ditching out the big bucks for that billboard.

BUSY DAY

I really got my work cut out for me today. It would require me to modify both our Main office program and Branch Program. I don't know if I could pull it off. But I have been in much tougher situations before. Sometimes I even amazes my self by doing things that seam to be incomprehensible at the beginning. It’s a good thing that my boss (sir Pablo) is here to help me regarding on the right approach for this kind of problem. He always has this idea or concept that would make things more simple and much easier to do.

Sometimes when people looks at my computer monitor and sees me working on my source code, forms and report forms. They would shake their head side ways and says “Trying to understand what you do, makes my skull want to crack open.”

I guess, I just got used to on using my head. And I guess it is better, rather than not use it at all. Our brain will get dull if we tend to doodle all day long.

Issue #2 in production

I slept very late last night. Actually it was already in 3:30 am in the morning. I just could not sleep without printing the first few covers of Kalayaan issue #2. I guess I just wanted to keep up with my promise of an issue every 4 months. And I also have to prepare this for this coming Komikon in November.

Prison Break Roll Call

1.) Special Agent Alexander Mahone (William Fichtner)
The psychopathic, drug addict and a very genius Agent that is always hot on the brothers (Michael and Lincoln) tail. Sometimes too genius that seams illogical for him to find out the puzzle the Scofield had put up. I sometimes scratch my head when he suddenly, miraculously figures out the answers of the super duper hidden puzzles on Michaels tattoos. It makes me think that this character must be piping on the scripts of the writers. This guy (the actor William Fichtner) has so many extras and supporting roles that I could count. Ranging from Movies to TV series. From Black hawk down, Perfect storm, Ultra Violet, Contact to Baywatch and lots lots lots more. Click here just to see what I mean.

2.) Fernando Sucre (Amaury Nolasco)
The love struck dude of the group. He always follow his heart. Even if it meant for him to go to prison. But he is a good and loyal friend of Michael Scofield. Ferrrrrnannndo Suuuuucre. I really like it when I said that.

3.)Benjamin "C-Note" Miles Franklin(Rockmond Dunbar)
I just don't know how did the writers come up with the nickname "C-Note" from Benjamin. T-Bag for Theodore Bagwell, that makes sense, but C-Note? I don't know. Must be a black dude thing.

4.) Dr. Sara Tancredi (
Sarah Wayne Callies)
Frankly speaking, Michael should have gone with that sexy stripper girl(uhhh yummy), instead of this girl. I just don't know what a good looking guy like him sees on her. Darn those writers.

5.) Lincoln Burrows (
Dominic Purcell)
Count Dracula in the Blade Trinity. Remember that?

6.)
John Abruzzi
Peter Stormare
The mobster who died after just breaking out of prison.

7.)Michael Scofield (
Wentworth Miller)
Your the man. Thats my Michael. Genius and good looking too. Just like me. (hehe).

8.)Special Agent Paul Kellerman (
Paul Adelstein)
At first, I just wanna strangle this character and kill him. Kill, kill, kill you bastard murderous stupid shit. But on the last part of season 2, I started kinda liking him. He was just an Agent following a wrong person and at a wrong reason. And I was also kinda piss at Sara by the way she is treating him. Okay, ok... given the facts that he deceived her and tried to kill her. But come on... She already got even with him so many times. And the last token of good will and sincerity. Kellerman sacrificed himself just for Sara to avoid prison. I just don't like his eye brows. He looks very much like Gay with those.

9.) Veronica Donovan (
Robin Tunney)
What a waste. Shot in the head and chopped down in pieces and bagged down on a garbage bag .What a darn waste of beauty.

10.) Captain Brad Bellick (
Wade Williams)
I HATE YOU.... I hope you rot in prison.

11.) Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell (
Robert Knepper)
Ahhhh yessss. T-Bag, the psychopathic killer of the group. At first, I thought he was Gay, or maybe he really is. Or maybe that is just because that was just in prison. Take what you can get right? I really hate the character (but there were circumstances that I like him), but I love the actor. Robert Knepper really brings out the psycho killer in T-Bag.

Prison Break

At long last, after waiting for months and months. Prison Break season 3 is here. The first episode of the new season titled "Orientacion" will start airing at Sept. 17 with Scofield back in prison again, but this time he is inside the prison of Panama. And one of the odd thing there(and very interesting twist), is Agent Mahone is also a prisoner there.

Me and my wife is a huge huge fan of this show. I remember that we used to sleep around 2 to 3am just to watch this series. I do not want to say this, but my wife has a big crush on Wentworth Miller (Michael Scofield). Darn that good looking guy. Frankly speaking, I can't blame her. After watching season 1 and 2, any girl would probably have crush on him too.

I just cant wait until sept. 17, internet connection... don't fail me now.

Spoon Feeding

Most of the people that I know or I encounter are babies. Babies in a sense that even if the food that they need are already in front of them, they would not eat it. They would turn away and prefer just to play around. They would simply yawn and say….”I am too busy, I will do that some other time.” And others simply don’t care. They do not comprehend the importance of what is in front of them. They could not see the opportunities that is being presented to them. If they could only open their eyes and mind and see the great wealth the world has to offer. And the possibilities are endless. And the great knowledge that are being GIVEN to them. Some individuals would pay a large amount of money just to have the thing that I am offering. But I choose to give it away for free. I am already spoon feeding them the knowledge, but still they refuse to take it. Darn it.

Spoon feeding is a word that I first heard in school, when I was in elementary. After graduating from collage and working as a professional, I thought that was the last time I would hear about it. But as I become more aware about the behavior of people around me. This has become a unanimous to their personalities. It is very disturbing to me that people does not think for them selves anymore, one way or the other. Some let their boss think for them or they let others think for them. They relay on others more and more, and has no self confidence. And some just don’t care. Others, even if you spoon feed to them the information or knowledge that they need to succeed in life. They just don’t pursue it. They are contented to what they have and does not pursue for a better living. They simply do not plan for their future. Learning does not stop in school. It is a continuous process. You have to learn more and more to succeed in life.

San Diego Comicon

I just downloaded Episode 30 and 31 of iFanboy. Its a part 1 and 2 of their coverage of the San Diego Comic-Con. It is a jam packed event, lots of people and lots of stuff happening at the same time. I only have watched the first part. Maybe I will watch the 2nd part tomorrow.

On Part 1 they have interviewed Jeffrey Brown (Incredible Change-Bots),Freddie E. Williams II (Robin), Ethan Van Sciver (Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps),Adam Beechen (Countdown) , Scott Kurtz (PvP), Bill Willingham (Fables),and my favorite artist Jim Lee, and lots more.

The interview with Ethan Van Sciver was very interesting and very informative about the Green Lanterns. It gives me a better view on how intricate he works with each page that he creates and his relationship with his writer.

Rainy day

It’s a rainy day today. But I still have to go to work. I really don’t mine, because my work is not really that hard. I really gotten used to it. And I have become a somewhat of an adopted child of the owners of the company that I work on. They have become my 2nd fathers. My boss, sir Tom and sir Pablo. They are brothers that has a Filipino and Chinese heritage. One thing that I really like about Chinese people is that their perspective in money. They are very wise when it comes to it and that is the reason why most of successful businessmen are Chinese.

I go at our ortigas office only 3 times a week(the other days, I will go to other clients of mine. And sometime I will just stay home). And I don’t have any time card. I arrive there around 10am to 11am, no late or tardiness what so ever. And I will leave at our office around 6pm to 6:30pm and sometimes 7pm. And the salary is better than any of my other clients. So going there is really has no pressure on me. Unlike other employee that has to rush every morning. Trying to avoid a mark of tardiness in their time card because it will reflect on their record. Some company would deduct it from their salary. Some would remove them from the list of people that is a candidate to be an employee of the year.

Kalayaan Merchandise

I just recently opened an online shop of Kalayaan Merchandise at CafePress.com

I first saw this kind of thing on Gener Pedrina. And I started tinkering around CafePress.com and stumbled in creating my own shop. And "why not" I said to my self. I always wanted to see my character on a printed shirt. And by the way, It cost NOTHING. That is the beauty of it. The internet gives you an opportunity with so many options. I just have choose the basic account which is a little bit limited but free. And there is also the premium version for serious shop seller, which I am not. So I just have just stick at the free basic for the time being.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad

Rich Dad, Poor Dad is an audio book written by Robert Kiyosaki. A best selling author and businessman. This is his true story starting from his early age of 9 thinking on how to be rich to his adult life.

This is just the part 1 of the 3 part audio book that I have recently downloaded. I know that some of you would not agree on some of the things that he would say here. But I suggest that you could widen your views in life and have an open mind about things that you could think that is not right.

Sometimes when I reflect on my life, I noticed that I am not getting any younger. I really should think about not only my future, but the future of my kids as well. Somehow this audio book have changed my perspective in life. It opened up so many possibilities that I could do starting from now on forward. Things that I never thought that I could possibly do.

Anyway, just listen to it and you will know what I mean.

To download the file, just go to the link below.

This file will be deleted on the YouSendIt.com server after 7 days or after 100 download. Which ever comes first.

Kalayaan#2 Page2

Here is a preview of my up coming Kalayaan #2 to be release this middle of September or early October. I will be posting more preview pages this coming weeks to come.

---------------------------

There are a lot of things happening this coming months. Lots of changes, lots of events. With Carlo J. Caparas Komiks in September and the 3rd Komikon this November 17. In my personal opinion, this coming months will be the turning point of the Philippine Komik industry. It is an exiting time for people like me who loves komiks.

No more anonymous comments

From this day on forward, I will not be posting anymore anonymous comments here. It is simply rude to go someplace with a mask and start insulting them. Telling them that their works is ugly and start laghing ...Bwahahaha.
If you post anonymously here, your comments will be automatically deleted.
If you want to vandalize a blog? You better go somewhere else.
And if you really think my work is bad? Let us discuss it like civilized people.  Validate you opinion by standing by it with your real name, and real email address.

I share the insights of Gerry Alanguilan about this. Please read this.

Some times I often ask myself, do we live in a civilized society? There are more evil people today than ever before. That is why there is a Hell waiting for them.

Great Weather

I just came back from Port Area Manila. Manila Times (a news paper company), an old client of mine ask me a week ago if I could come to their office to do some enhancement on my existing program there which is Billing and Collection System, and Advertising and Circulation System.

When I was going there in the morning, the weather was great. Cloudy with no sun and rain. It was just after the rain last night that made the wind so cold. I really like it, since I am more tolerable in cold weather rather that the hot scorching of the summer sun. But later that day, the rain have pour really hard. Many people was stranded because of the sudden flood in españa street. The street in front of UST has literally become a river. I even saw a few street children swimming there. Every year this happens, a sudden strong rain comes and the street of españa disappears. When would they get this thing fix once and for all? They should make a sewage system that is as big as the thing we see in the movie/TV series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle". If the TMNT would come here in the Philippines, they would simply not fit in our current sewage system. And even if they could, they would probably mutate more and become the Swamp Thing, because of the garbage that keep on clogging our drainage system.

Ah well, at lease it is now cold here, instead of the super duper heat a few months ago.

Kalayaan and Caroq

The guy below Kalayaan with a pair of clurit (maduranese blade) is Caroq. He is one of the new generation of superheroes of Indonesia created by Ahmad Thoriq. Caroq is the favorite character of Berny Juliano. The guy who colored my recent drawing. A great colorist / artist from Indonesia. He asked me if I could draw Caroq together with Kalayaan. I of course said yes...so here they are.

Wouldn't it be great to create a crossover team up issue of these two superheroes. And that issue would be distributed not only in the Philippines, but also in Indonesia as well. Even if that issue would be just a one shot issue, that issue would be great because they would be exchanging culture with one another. These two characters would be each representing their country. At lease it is free to dream right?

I scanned first the penciled work. And then after inking it, I scanned it again(of course). I normally don't do this. Most often, I would ink it right away after the pencil. But since Bernie said that he would be also coloring this, I decided to break down the process of making the finished art. Just like what the professionals do. I am now just waiting for Bernie to finish the colors and I would post it immediately here. I think drawing will look great with colors because they are both flag based superhero characters. I am also planning to print this on a large poster, together with my other drawings for the coming komikon. About 10x15 in a glossy photo paper. Now if only I could find a place/store that can do that?

3rd Komikon

Komikon official date is November 19,2007. Last year I did not make it because of a health problem. But this time I hope that I could come(if God permits). Since this is my first time to attend, I don't exactly know what to expect. I still don't know how much to register and have your own table and chair there to sell you comics. I guess I would have to ask around a little bit.

I hope next year my character Kalayaan would be included on the promotional poster. Now that is something I really look forward to. He he.

You can also visit their site for more information at http://komikon.blogspot.com/

Work, work, work

Sometimes I forgot that I'm a computer programmer. To be honest, it has been quite a while since I programmed here in our house. Most often, I would draw or scan and color stuff in my computer than do a freelanced programming work these past few weeks that had past. But that would soon change when my partner Francis called me and talked about that there will be lots of programming project that is already lined up this coming months.

I guess I wont have much time now doing the #3 issue of Kalayaan and draw some other stuff. But at lease, it was a good thing that #2 is already done. And I'm just waiting for some minor revisions from my proof readers (relatives and friends).

Heroes with colors

"Holllliiiiii Shhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.
Wow..... Your a great colorist."

That is what I said to Berny Juliano. The guy who colored this drawing of mine. He is from Indonesia and we have only met in deviantART. We were exchanging emails recently regarding the status of the local comic industry on both our country.

It is kinda nice that Indonesia share many things in common with the Philippines. But unfortunately, one of those things, is the status of the local comics industry. Bernie said that in the 1950-1980's they had a good market for their local comics. but after that years, almost every reader pick imported products.

Well I guess, we artist should really stick together, to make our comics industry alive and make it better than we currently have.

It is very nice for a good colorist to color my art once in a while. Since that is my weakest talent.
